Community News: Bridging Generations Group Competes First Year Of Courses

Bridging Generations is the group that was formed by Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Diocesan Primate, as a means of bridging the gap between generations. Aimed at the 20 to 40-year-old members of our church community, the group quickly became a place where young adults could express themselves about matters of faith and their participation in the church.

There has been no slowing down this group. Despite the pandemic, Bridging Generations met every week for the past year in a hybrid format. Quickly it became apparent that the fundamental expressions of the Armenian Church were necessary as a basis for this group to participate in church-life in a meaningful manner.

At each Bridging Generations meeting, either Mashdots Jobanian or Hayk Madoyan present a lecture/learning session on Armenian Church patristics, Bible study and knowledge and Armenian Church theology. According to Archbishop Hovnan, the purpose was to give this generation of young men and women the tools with which to teach and educate others. After a 40 week period, two tests were administered by Jobanian and Madoyan to monitor the progress of the group. On the Feast of the Transfiguration, July 11, at the St. Leon Ghevondyants Armenian Cathedral, with the reception of Holy Communion, members of Bridging Generations celebrated their first year together.

Bridging Generations will take a break to accommodate different summer schedules and will regroup on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Follow the Diocesan news and Facebook page for more information. All are welcome to participate, especially those who participated this year, at whatever level. The new year will have many opportunities to welcome spiritual growth for all.
