Many people like to drink hot drinks in winter, but it is recommended to do it with caution because hot drinks can damage the mucous membranes of the mouth, the esophagus, and the tongue, therapist Larisa Alekseeva warns.
According to her, due to the use of hot drinks, various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract can develop, which in turn can lead to erosion, gastritis or ulcers, and even oncological diseases.
In his turn, nutritionist and endocrinologist Aleksey Kalinchev noted that in case of burning of the tongue due to hot drinks, the negative symptoms appear within 12-24 hours. And in case of chronic inflammation, there is a risk of development of cancerous growths.
Hot drinks are also dangerous for the teeth, said dentist and orthodontist Maria Balakireva, adding that tooth enamel can crack due to drinking very hot drinks. There are also cases when stomatitis occurs in case of irritation of the oral cavity after drinking a hot drink.
According to experts, all these consequences can be avoided if the hot drinks are consumed at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.
